Privacy Policy

Overview

Taste Twins is a book recommendation app that finds readers whose taste correlates with yours. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights around it. We take your privacy seriously and will never sell your data.

Information We Collect

• Account information: your email address and display name
• Book data: the books you add, with your ratings, reviews, and reading status
• Profile information: an optional bio and profile picture
• Imported data: the book data from your uploaded Goodreads or StoryGraph CSV files
• Searches: what you type into Search by mood, used to find matching books and to improve the feature
• Book creator applications: if you apply for a creator page, the page address and social media links you enter, and the verification code we give you

How We Use Your Information

• To identify readers whose taste correlates with yours
• To generate book recommendations based on your Taste Twins' libraries
• To send you email notifications about newly identified Taste Twins and a weekly digest of book recommendations (only if you have these enabled)
• To display your profile and library to other users (based on your privacy settings)

What We Share

Your display name and book library are visible to other Taste Twins users by default. You can set your library to private in your profile settings, which limits visibility to only books you have in common with a Taste Twin. We do not share or sell your personal information to third parties.

Book creator pages are public. If you apply for a creator page and we approve it, anyone on the web can see it, including people without an account and search engines. It shows your display name, profile picture, bio, the social media links you gave us, how many books you have read, your most-read genres, your taste tags, and your five-star reads. It may also show how many readers follow you. Turning your library private hides your creator page.

Book creators can see who follows them. When you follow a book creator, they can see your display name and profile picture in their list of followers. If your library is private, you appear in that list only as “A reader,” without your name or picture. Unfollowing removes you from the list. Saving a reader who is not a book creator is never shared with them.

Third-Party Services

We use the following services to operate Taste Twins:

• Supabase - stores your account and book data securely
• Vercel - hosts the application
• Resend - sends notification emails
• Anthropic (Claude) - helps classify book genres, extract taste preferences from your reviews, write the summary of what your five-star reads have in common, match your Search by mood requests to books, and read book titles from bookshelf photos you scan (photos are not stored)
• Cloudflare Turnstile - checks that sign-ups and sign-ins come from a person, not a bot
• Sentry - reports errors on the site so we can fix them
• ISBNdb, Google Books, and Open Library - provide book covers, summaries, and other book details. We only send them book titles, authors, and ISBNs, never anything about you
• Bookshop.org - sells the books linked from Taste Twins and supports independent bookstores. We earn a small commission on purchases made through these links. We don't share anything about you with Bookshop.org; if you click a link, Bookshop.org's own privacy policy applies on their site

Each of these services has their own privacy policy and security practices.

Email Notifications

When you create an account, we will send you a welcome email with instructions on how to get started. If you haven't added any books after signing up, we'll send you one reminder email, typically around a week after you sign up. If it's been more than 60 days since you last added a book - whether by importing a CSV or adding one manually - we may also send a reminder to update your library so your correlations stay accurate. If you have notifications enabled, we will also email you when a new Taste Twin is identified and send you a weekly digest of book recommendations based on your Taste Twins' libraries. You can turn the Taste Twin, weekly recommendations, add-your-books reminder, and library update reminder notifications off at any time in your profile settings. The weekly recommendations digest, new Taste Twin emails, the add-your-books reminder, and the library update reminder each include an unsubscribe link that doesn't require logging in. We will never share your email address with third parties.

Your Rights

• You can update or delete your account information at any time from your profile
• You can download a copy of your library, including your ratings and reviews, at any time from Settings
• You can set your library to private at any time
• You can turn off email notifications at any time
